US and Iran escalate military strikes over Strait of Hormuz
US launches new strikes as Iran says civilian infrastructure hit
The United States launched its sixth consecutive night of military strikes against Iran, with U.S. Central Command stating the attacks aimed to degrade Iranian military capabilities. The operation included a naval blockade of Iranian ports. Iran's state media reported that civilian infrastructure was hit, including bridges, a train station, and an airport. The BBC confirmed an attack on a bridge near Bandar Abbas.
In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed strikes on US maritime radar sites in Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain, plus a special operations command center in Syria near al-Tanf. The IRGC said the Syrian attack was retaliation for the killing of Iranian soldiers two days prior.
Defense systems in the region intercepted incoming fire: Jordan's military shot down three Iranian missiles with no reported casualties or damage, while Kurdish forces in Iraq reported downing eight drones over Erbil. The critical Strait of Hormuz remains closed following the escalation.
