Historic Yerevan Building Reopens as Cultural Space
A Yerevan landmark finds new life through Musæum
A long-abandoned historic building at 32 Hanrapetutyan Street in Yerevan has reopened as a temporary museum through the Musæum initiative, organized by the Rambalkoshe Cultural Foundation. The structure, composed of sections built from black and orange tuff dating to the 1850s, served as the Persian consulate until 1920 and later housed the headquarters of the Armenian Division and the Armenian Society for the Preservation of Historical Monuments. The building's reopening coincided with the 23rd Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival, hosting exhibitions, workshops, and screenings throughout July. The space features distinctive architectural details, including chandeliers designed by Alexander Tamanyan and stained-glass windows created by Armenian craftsmen. The building will eventually become a permanent museum dedicated to artist Marcos Grigorian, operating as a branch of the Museum of Literature and Art After Yeghishe Charents.
