AYF Olympics: Saturday Softball, Picnic and Dance
Saturday at the AYF Olympics

The Armenian Youth Federation Olympics featured a full Saturday program combining sports, food, and entertainment. Providence won the coed softball tournament, defeating Detroit 10-8 in the championship game. Catcher Lily Janigian earned the game ball for her defensive plays and clutch hits. The tournament, the only team sport at the Olympics and worth zero points toward the overall cup, drew strong competition from chapters nationwide. The day also included an old-fashioned Armenian picnic with music from the Norkef Ensemble, reviving a tradition that began in Detroit in 2014. The evening concluded with a dance featuring Armenian singer Elie Berberian. The Saturday format—combining softball, picnic, and entertainment—has become a popular fixture since its introduction.
