Brooklyn Artist Anahit Hayrapetyan Explores Memory Through Drawing
Anahit Hayrapetyan remembers it differently in her drawings
Brooklyn-based architect and artist Anahit Hayrapetyan recently exhibited her work titled "I Remember It Differently" at Studio 9BC in New York City. Born in Armenia and having lived internationally, Hayrapetyan creates intricate ink and paper drawings that explore themes of displacement, memory, and landscape.
Hayrapetyan describes her work as a personal diary rendered through visual art rather than writing. Her pieces blend real Armenian landscapes from her childhood with imagination and memory, examining how displacement and time shape our recollection of place. Notable works include "Islands 1" and "Islands 2," which together suggest a figure in motion, and "Mend," which contrasts smooth outer lines with dense cross-hatching at its center.
The exhibition was curated by Merica May Jensen of Gray Matters and featured text by Thomas de Monchaux.
