Illinois student completes engineering internship in Yerevan
Finding family in an engineering internship

A University of Illinois aerospace engineering student completed a summer internship at Geocosmos, a satellite photography company based in Yerevan, Armenia. During the placement, the sophomore worked on multiple projects including a CAD model of a ground station with an ultra-high-frequency antenna, and developed two AI-assisted software tools for document analysis and mechanical engineering reference. The intern also created a comprehensive 100-page maintenance and inspection procedure for ground station equipment. Beyond technical work, the internship included travel throughout Armenia, including visits to cultural sites such as Karahunj, an ancient stone field in Syunik believed to have astronomical significance. The intern noted that working alongside experienced engineers and forming relationships with coworkers proved as valuable as the technical experience gained.
