UNICEF and Afeyan Foundation Expand Mental Health Services in Armenia
UNICEF and the Afeyan FoundationPartner to Advance Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
UNICEF Armenia and the Afeyan Foundation have completed a partnership to strengthen mental health and psychosocial support services for displaced and host community members across Armenia. The initiative addressed needs following September 2023, when over 115,000 ethnic Armenians fled to Armenia seeking refuge.
The program trained 2,017 adolescent peer support volunteers who reached 18,220 additional young people through awareness activities and psychosocial initiatives. It also trained 1,098 parent and social worker volunteers, whose outreach touched 26,004 beneficiaries.
The partnership focused on strengthening community resilience, reducing mental health stigma, and fostering social cohesion between displaced and host communities. Officials highlighted the importance of peer-led and community-driven approaches to address mental health needs amid constraints on professional resources.
