Trump Suggests Iran Could Attack Los Angeles and San Diego
Trump suggests allowing Iran to “take out” LA and San Diego during campaign rally
President Trump drew criticism from California officials after suggesting during a Nebraska campaign rally that Iran be allowed to attack Los Angeles and San Diego. "They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego," Trump said, calling it "a small price to pay for keeping the world safe."
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass responded sharply to the comments. Newsom called Trump "deranged and dangerous," while Bass stated that a president's role is to protect the country, not encourage attacks on American lives. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria emphasized the city's strategic importance, noting it is home to Naval Base San Diego, Camp Pendleton, and Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.
Los Angeles, the nation's second-largest city, hosts the Space Force's Space Systems Command Headquarters and major aerospace contractors.
