Pulitzer Prize Winner Peter Balakian Leads Writing Workshop
Sarkisian Workshop Series returns with Peter Balakian
The International Armenian Literary Alliance and Mizna are hosting the second installment of the Sarkisian Workshop Series featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Peter Balakian. The virtual two-hour workshop, "Poems that Ingest the Difficult World," takes place September 20, 2026, at 9 a.m. Pacific time.
The seminar will explore how poets address mass violence, social upheaval, and systemic dysfunction while maintaining literary depth and complexity. Balakian, author of nine poetry collections and the bestselling memoir "The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America's Response," teaches at Colgate University.
The 2026 Sarkisian Workshop Series includes six writing workshops designed to bring together writers from diverse backgrounds to engage with contemporary issues. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $16 for IALA members.
