OSCE Report: Armenian Election Marred by Opposition Prosecutions
Pashinyan government prosecuted opposition figures before vote

Armenia's June election saw Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party retain its majority, with international observers noting positive conditions at 98% of polling stations. However, the OSCE's preliminary report highlighted significant concerns about the campaign period preceding the vote.
The mission documented over 129 criminal proceedings opened against opposition figures, primarily from the Strong Armenia party, after voting was called. Eighty-nine people were charged; 20 remained in pretrial detention on election day. A separate Anti-Corruption Committee initiated prosecutions against 209 people and published intercepted private conversations online.
OSCE observers concluded these patterns "contributed to perceptions of selective justice" and affected opposition candidates' willingness to campaign. The report also noted a documented Russian disinformation campaign targeting Armenia, though analysts found the operation worked against the government rather than supporting it.
