Spanish cycling legend Samuel Sánchez, the 2008 Beijing Olympic road race champion, will serve as official ambassador for the inaugural Tour of Armenia, a UCI Europe Tour race scheduled for September 10-13, 2026.

The four-stage race will cover 587 kilometers across Armenia's regions, including Gegharkunik, Tavush, Lori, and Aragatsotn, concluding in Yerevan. Sánchez, who finished runner-up in the 2010 Tour de France and won the polka-dot jersey in 2011, brings 18 years of professional cycling experience to the event.

The Armenian Cycling Federation and Ministry of Education, Science and Culture organized the race in partnership with RCS Sports and Events, the organization behind Italy's Giro d'Italia. Officials aim to establish the Tour of Armenia as a permanent fixture on the international cycling calendar while promoting the country's landscapes and developing emerging talent.
