Hadrut Art Center Continues Mission in Yerevan After Displacement
Survival after displacement at Hadrut Children’s Art Center
The Hadrut Children's Art Center, established in 2004 in Nagorno-Karabakh, has reopened in Yerevan after its director and staff were displaced twice—first in 2020 when Azerbaijani forces occupied Hadrut, and again in 2023 following Azerbaijan's occupation of Artsakh. Director Ira Tamrazyan and her staff work without compensation, operating the center on donations and their own resources. The center now serves both displaced children from Artsakh and local Yerevan students across multiple artistic disciplines. In 2020, the original center served over 400 children. Tamrazyan, who fled Hadrut with only the clothes she carried, dreams of establishing a larger art complex near Yerevan while sustaining the center's operations through volunteer efforts and community support.
