Gomidas' Historic Voice Reaches Modern Audiences
More than a century later, Gomidas’ voice was heard once again

More than a century after its original recording, the voice of Gomidas, the renowned Armenian composer and musicologist, has been heard by contemporary audiences through a collaborative musical project. Singer Sibil, born in Istanbul, spent six years developing the initiative, which pairs Gomidas' historic voice recording with a modern interpretation of "Arorn Ou Tatrakn" ("The Curlew and the Turtledove"). The project aims to preserve Gomidas' musical legacy while introducing his voice to new generations. Vahan Nahapetyan arranged the music, with mixing and mastering by Hmayak Rostomyan. The music video, directed by Artyom Abovyan, premiered on YouTube on July 22, 2026. The project received support from Herman Hintiryan and AGBU.
