Five arrested in Gazprom Armenia gas supply bribery probe
Four Gazprom Armenia employees arrested in alleged gas supply bribery case
Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee has arrested five people as part of a criminal investigation into alleged bribery in gas supply operations. Four of those arrested are employees of Gazprom Armenia, while the fifth is an official from Armenia's Urban Development, Technical and Fire Safety Inspection Body.
According to authorities, the investigation concerns alleged bribery related to providing gas supply to newly constructed buildings. Investigators say positive conclusions on gas safety were allegedly issued in exchange for bribes, while violations identified during the inspection process were overlooked.
Four of the arrested individuals have been remanded in custody pending trial. The fifth has been placed under house arrest. The Anti-Corruption Committee said the investigation remains ongoing.
