Artsakh marks 35 years of independence in exile
Armenians commemorated the 35th anniversary of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic's 1991 declaration on September 2, marking the occasion for a third consecutive year in Yerevan rather than Artsakh itself. The ceremony included visits to Yerablur Military Pantheon and a session of the Artsakh National Assembly held at the Artsakh Representation office.
Acting National Assembly Speaker Gagik Baghunts described the anniversary as occurring under "exceptionally difficult conditions," noting that displaced Artsakh Armenians have lost homes, land, churches and cemeteries. He highlighted ongoing concerns about Armenian cultural heritage and Armenians detained in Azerbaijan.
Armine Aleksanyan, representing the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the People of Artsakh, stated that advocacy efforts continue at international forums including the United Nations and European institutions, emphasizing that durable peace must address forced displacement and detained persons.
