Armenia to Publish New Constitution Draft in November
Armenia plans to publish draft of new Constitution in November
Armenia's government plans to release a draft constitution in November, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced Monday during a National Assembly session. The publication will be followed by public consultations and discussions, with the government accepting public proposals before organizing additional review rounds.
Pashinyan identified signing and ratifying a peace agreement with Azerbaijan as a key government priority. He addressed opposition concerns about whether a new constitution would guarantee a peace deal, arguing that if the ruling majority supported the peace process while the opposition opposed the constitution, the public would view the opposition as opposing peace with Azerbaijan.
The prime minister suggested this political dynamic could generate public pressure on opposition parties. He called on the ruling majority to lead efforts to frame the constitutional vote in the context of the broader peace process with Azerbaijan.
