Armenia to host CIS Games in 2029, Yerevan named CIS Sports Capital

Armenia will host the Commonwealth of Independent States Games in 2029, with Yerevan designated as the CIS Sports Capital, according to a decision made at a Council for Physical Culture and Sport meeting in Almaty, Kazakhstan on September 27.

Artur Sedrakyan, representing Armenia's Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, attended the council meeting alongside representatives from nine CIS member states: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The council discussed cooperation in physical culture and sports, exchanged best practices, and outlined joint programs. A regular CIS Council meeting will be held in Armenia during the 2029 Games. The CIS Games aim to strengthen sporting ties among participating nations and promote the development of sports across the region. In 2024, Gyumri held the CIS Sports Capital designation.
