Armenia Issues Collector Coin for UN Biodiversity Conference
Armenia to put into circulation silver collector coin dedicated to COP17
Armenia's Central Bank will circulate a silver collector coin on October 5, 2026, commemorating COP17, the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. The coin marks Armenia's hosting of the conference and its presidency through 2028.
The 1,000 dram coin features Armenia's coat of arms and flag on the obverse, and the official COP17 logo on the reverse—a stylized image of the Yerevan blue butterfly, an endemic species listed in Armenia's Red Book. Designer Anna Kurghinyan created the imagery, and the Royal Dutch Mint produced the coins.
Only 300 coins will be minted in 925 silver, each weighing 33.6 grams. The Central Bank emphasizes the coins are collectible items rather than currency for circulation, with a face value of 1,000 dram but substantially higher market value. The coins, packaging, and accompanying materials are made from recycled materials.
