Watertown youth delegate supports Markey at Democratic convention

Rosdom Kaligian of Watertown, Massachusetts attended the state Democratic convention in Worcester as a youth delegate, supporting U.S. Sen. Ed Markey's reelection bid. Kaligian has been active in local politics, participating in Watertown Planning Department meetings focused on downtown revitalization and advocating for transit-friendly development.

Markey, a longtime advocate for Armenian issues including genocide recognition and Artsakh rights, received endorsement from Armenian American activists in the primary. He secured 73 percent of the convention vote against challenger Seth Moulton. The Armenian National Committee and AYF Greater Boston Nejdeh Chapter organized phone-banking efforts to mobilize Democratic voters. Markey received the ANC-Eastern U.S. Freedom Award in 2017 for his support of Armenian American causes and human rights.
