Tunik App Brings Armenian Folklore to Diaspora Children

Tunik, a new mobile app developed by an Armenian team, delivers Armenian folklore to diaspora children through illustrated bedtime stories narrated by native speakers. The app launched on iPhone and iPad earlier this year and arrives on Android this month.

The platform hosts over 90 stories, including traditional tales like the epic of Sasuntsi Davit and works by Hovhannes Tumanyan, alongside original content. A new feature displays Armenian text word-by-word alongside narration, with optional Latin transliteration for diaspora families learning the language.

The app contains no advertising and complies with child safety standards. Tunik is partnering with Armenian day schools, Saturday schools, and churches across the United States and France, offering free classroom access and family discounts. Founder Mesrop Ishkhanyan framed the app as addressing a common diaspora experience: children responding in English rather than Armenian.
