Dorothy Vartanian Piligian, Community Volunteer, Dies at 99
In memory of Dorothy (Vartanian) Piligian
Dorothy (Vartanian) Piligian of Needham, Massachusetts, passed away on September 16, 2026, at age 99. Born in Indian Orchard to Armenian immigrant parents Seranoosh and Nigohos Vartanian, Piligian was a lifelong community member across Massachusetts and Virginia.
Piligian worked for the telephone company, General Binding Corporation, and Cullinet Software Corporation over her career. She was known for her volunteer work, including starting Armenian language classes at a local elementary school, serving with Meals on Wheels, and participating in Armenian organizations.
Survived by two children, four grandchildren, and preceded by her husband Murad of 52 years, daughter Diane, and siblings, Piligian was remembered for her hospitality, cooking, and devotion to family and community. Memorial services were held at Saint James Armenian Church in Watertown.
