Singapore PM Congratulates Pashinyan, Highlights Armenian Ties

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his recent parliamentary election victory, emphasizing the historical connections between the two nations. Wong noted that while diplomatic relations date to 1992, Armenia's influence in Singapore extends over a century, particularly through the Armenian community's cultural contributions. He highlighted the Armenian Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator, built in 1835 and Singapore's oldest church, as well as Agnes Joaquim, an Armenian horticulturist who bred Singapore's national flower. Wong welcomed Armenia's opening of an honorary consulate in Singapore in May 2025 as a step toward strengthening engagement. As fellow members of the Forum of Small States, both countries share commitments to international law and free trade. Wong expressed openness to expanding cooperation in trade and people-to-people exchanges.
