Russia Awaits Armenia's Plan on Food Safety Violations
Russia awaits Armeniaโs investigation results before easing import restrictions
Russia has conditioned the easing of import restrictions on Armenian agricultural products on completion of an investigation into sanitary violations, according to the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance.
Moscow is requesting that Armenia provide investigation results, measures taken, and an action plan to comply with Eurasian Economic Union veterinary and phytosanitary standards. The restrictions, imposed earlier this year, affect mineral water, alcoholic beverages, vegetables, fruits, and dairy products.
During an August 13 meeting between Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut and Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan, Russia emphasized requirements including proper use of raw materials, pesticide controls, supply chain traceability, and other mandatory safety standards. The outcome of Armenia's compliance efforts will determine whether the import restrictions are lifted.
