OpenAI Introduces New Safety Features for Teen ChatGPT Users
OpenAI makes ChatGPT less βhumanβ for teens in new safety update
OpenAI announced a suite of safety features designed for users under 18 on Tuesday. The new teen accounts will allow young people to disable the chatbot's human-like voice responses, reducing the perception that they are interacting with a person rather than an artificial intelligence system.
The company is also implementing periodic reminders encouraging teenagers to take breaks from the platform, with messages emphasizing that ChatGPT is an AI tool and "it can wait." OpenAI stated the updates are not a response to documented cases of children believing the chatbot is sentient, though the company acknowledged growing concerns about users becoming convinced AI tools possess consciousness or human-like qualities.
