Ruben Rubinyan, Armenia's special representative for normalization talks with Türkiye, said he will resign from that role if elected Speaker of the National Assembly. Rubinyan made the statement after being nominated as the ruling Civil Contract party's candidate for Speaker following a closed ballot by the party's governing board.

Rubinyan cited incompatibility between the two positions. He currently serves as Deputy Speaker and has led Armenia's normalization efforts with Türkiye since 2021. When asked about his potential successor, Rubinyan said no decision has been made and that Prime Minister and the government will determine who fills the role.

The new National Assembly recently held elections, setting the stage for the Speaker selection process.
