Massachusetts Chamber Music Artists concludes season with Armenian program

Massachusetts Chamber Music Artists concluded its inaugural season with a concert devoted entirely to Armenian classical music on May 17 at Follen Church in Lexington. Titled "Mosaics of Armenia," the program featured violinist Hayk Hovsepian (founder and artistic director), cellist Suren Bagratuni, and pianist Karen Hakobyan performing works by Aram Khachaturian, Komitas, Gagik Hovunts, and Arno Babajanian. The concert included several rare performances, notably Grigor Hakhinian's "Poem on the Melodies of Sayat-Nova," which was presented for the first time in the United States. The program had been performed the previous day in New York. The trio's closing performance of Babajanian's "Piano Trio in F-sharp Minor" drew enthusiastic applause and two encores.
