Lavrov Says Armenian Claims Against Russia 'Stir Emotions'

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov responded to recent Armenian allegations regarding bilateral relations, saying some claims were surprising and emotionally charged. Speaking to RBC TV, Lavrov addressed Armenian statements that the South Caucasus Railway infrastructure belongs to Armenia and that Russia owes the country approximately $2 billion.

Lavrov suggested such disputes should be resolved through private diplomatic channels rather than public statements. He said Moscow was surprised by Armenia's public approach to the railway issue, which operates under a concession held by Russian Railways.

Lavrov stated that public claims triggered emotional reactions among Russian citizens beyond economic considerations. He indicated that regular contacts between deputy prime ministers of both countries could address Armenian concerns through direct discussion rather than public declarations.
