Kremlin Says Armenia's Strategic Direction Matters to Russia
Kremlin says Armenia’s choice of future direction important to Russia
Russia's Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday that Armenia's current deliberations over its future development path are important to Moscow, citing centuries of historical ties between the two nations.
Peskov noted that Armenian leadership has spoken repeatedly about making a strategic choice regarding the country's direction. "Armenia and its leadership are now at a crossroads," he said, according to TASS. "This is important for us because for many centuries Russia and Armenia have been neighboring countries, brotherly countries."
The statement underscores Russia's close attention to Armenian affairs. Russia and Armenia have maintained traditional political, economic, and cultural ties, though bilateral relations have faced recent challenges over regional and security issues. Moscow has previously stated it respects Armenia's sovereign decisions while expressing continued interest in the trajectory of their bilateral relationship.
