Karapetyan Rejects Russian Backing Ahead of Armenian Elections

Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia alliance, denied claims of Russian support while voting in Armenia's parliamentary elections. Speaking to journalists at a Yerevan polling station, Karapetyan dismissed suggestions that Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent remarks about pro-Russian political forces constituted backing for his candidacy.

"Have you seen Russia supporting me?" Karapetyan said, characterizing Putin's statement as merely affirming citizens' rights to participate in elections. He acknowledged that Russia pursues its own interests in Armenia independently of local political actors.

When asked about alternatives if the current government could not be removed through elections, Karapetyan stated the outcome depends on the Armenian people. He emphasized the importance of a legitimate government for Armenia's development, saying he would provide further comment to journalists in coming days.
