Glendale Post Office to Honor Armenian-American Paul Ignatius
Glendale Post Office to be named after Armenian-American David Ignatius
The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation June 29, 2026, to name the Glendale, California post office on San Fernando Road after Paul Ignatius, an Armenian-American public servant who died last year at age 104.
Ignatius was born in Glendale in 1920 to Armenian immigrant parents and worked as a clerk at the same post office that will bear his name. He served as a naval officer in World War II and held senior defense positions across two presidential administrations, including Secretary of the Navy. The Navy commissioned the guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Ignatius in his honor.
The bill, sponsored by Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) with bipartisan support from the California delegation, now moves to the Senate, where Senator Schiff leads efforts for passage. Ignatius continued community service into his final years.
