Former President Kocharyan Hospitalized During Corruption Detention
Robert Kocharyan hospitalized after his health deteriorates in custody
Robert Kocharyan, Armenia's former president, was transferred to a medical facility after experiencing health complications while in custody on August 25. The Anti-Corruption Committee said emergency medical assistance was called after Kocharyan developed high blood pressure. He was subsequently admitted for further examination.
According to Kocharyan's office chief Bagrat Mikoyan, the former president had recently undergone a medical procedure, prompting his doctor to recommend additional examinations as a precaution.
Kocharyan was detained as part of a criminal investigation into alleged corruption-related offenses. The Anti-Corruption Committee is pursuing detention as a preventive measure pending court proceedings.
