Former Armenian President Sargsyan Faces Criminal Charges
Serzh Sargsyan faces criminal prosecution in case involving Robert Kocharyan
Criminal prosecution has been initiated against Serzh Sargsyan, Armenia's third president, as part of an ongoing investigation involving former President Robert Kocharyan, according to Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee.
The Prosecutor General's Office has charged Kocharyan with abuse of official powers in three instances, receiving particularly large bribes in two episodes, and large-scale money laundering in four episodes. The investigation also involves Kocharyan's son Sedrak Kocharyan and other individuals.
Sargsyan told journalists he was not yet aware of the specific charges when summoned by the Anti-Corruption Committee. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue examining alleged corruption schemes.
