EU Parliament Committee Backs Trade Measures for Armenia
EU Parliament Committee backs simplified procedure for Armenia trade measures
Armenia has advanced its effort to secure autonomous trade measures from the European Union after the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade (INTA) agreed to expedite consideration of the proposal.
On July 14, Armenia's Ambassador to the EU Tigran Balayan met with MEP Bogdan Andrzej Zdrojewski, the parliament's rapporteur on Armenia, to discuss the planned trade measures and deepening EU-Armenia economic ties. Ambassador Balayan characterized the decision as exceptional and outlined Armenia's initiatives to strengthen cooperation with Europe.
According to the ambassador, the autonomous trade measures are intended to help diversify Armenia's export markets by improving access for Armenian products to European buyers. During a subsequent INTA Committee session, members voted to examine the trade measures proposal under a simplified procedure, accelerating the timeline for potential approval.
