EU Parliament Approves Tariff Relief for Armenian Exports
EU Parliament committee approves trade liberalization measures for Armenian products
The European Parliament's Committee on International Trade approved temporary removal of tariffs on Armenian products entering the European Union, following Russian trade restrictions imposed since May 2026. The committee voted 35-2-3 in favor on September 3.
The two-year measure eliminates tariffs on approximately 80% of Armenian exports to the EU and establishes tariff-free import quotas for eight agricultural products, including grapes, apricots, cherries, peaches, and cucumbers. Russia's restrictions on beverages, mineral water, fruits, vegetables, and transit routes have disrupted Armenia's traditional supply chains and export markets, particularly affecting small and medium-sized enterprises and agricultural producers.
The EU Council previously endorsed the proposal without changes. The full European Parliament is expected to approve it without amendments during its September plenary session. Once adopted, the regulation will enter into force following publication in the EU Official Journal, contingent on Armenia's compliance with applicable trade rules and CEPA requirements.
