EBRD Names New Head of Yerevan Office

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has appointed Remon Zakaria as head of its Yerevan Resident Office, effective September 1, 2026. Zakaria replaces George Akhalkatsi and will oversee EBRD investments and operations in Armenia while reporting to the Regional Director for the Caucasus.

An Italian national, Zakaria joined the EBRD in 2012 and has held senior roles across eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, directing over €600 million in green investments. Most recently, he served as head of the EBRD's Montenegro office since 2021, where the bank delivered 40 percent of all its projects there since 2006.

The EBRD has operated in Armenia since 1992, investing €3 billion across 245 projects to date.
