Democrats Gain Control of Congress in U.S. Midterm Elections
Democrats take control of US Congress
Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in U.S. midterm elections, according to reporting from Public Radio of Armenia. The victories give Democrats the ability to block President Donald Trump's legislative agenda for the remainder of his presidency.
Democrats secured Senate seats in traditionally Republican-leaning states, including Texas, Ohio, and Kansasβwhich had not elected a Democrat to the Senate in nearly a century. President Trump acknowledged the party's success and cited the Iran conflict and elevated fuel prices as contributing factors to the Republican losses.
With Democratic control of Congress, the party will hold significant power to obstruct presidential initiatives over the next two years.
