Czech president lauds Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process
Czech President Petr Pavel has expressed support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan during talks with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in Prague. Pavel noted that the diplomatic process began in Prague in 2022 and received new momentum following talks in Washington on August 8, 2024. He characterized the South Caucasus region, historically marked by conflict, as having entered a period of relative calm.
Pavel also expressed hope for continued strengthening of Armenia-Tรผrkiye relations, citing benefits for both countries and the European Union. During his official visit to the Czech Republic, President Khachaturyan met with Czech Senate leadership and is scheduled to address the Armenian diaspora community. The visit will include a commemoration of Czech humanitarian aid following the 1988 Armenian earthquake, featuring meetings with Czech firefighters who participated in the rescue operation.
