Court Extends Detention of Prosperous Armenia Party Leader Tsarukyan
Court extends Gagik Tsarukyan’s detention by two months
A Yerevan court has extended the pretrial detention of Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party and prominent businessman, for an additional two months. The September 4 decision follows a prosecution request at the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction. Tsarukyan was arrested on July 7 and faces charges including fraud on an especially large scale, money laundering, and tax evasion. His legal team, led by attorney Emin Khachatryan, plans to appeal the decision to the Criminal Court of Appeal. The case involved searches of Tsarukyan's residence and multiple companies linked to him and his family. Tsarukyan and his lawyers maintain his innocence and have characterized the charges as unfounded.
