Chris Bohjalian and Nancy Kricorian discuss βThe Amateurβ
The Armenian Museum of America in Watertown, Massachusetts hosted a public conversation between bestselling author Chris Bohjalian and fellow writer Nancy Kricorian on August 11 to discuss Bohjalian's latest novel, "The Amateur."
The book, set in 1978, follows golf prodigy Mira Winston, who kills a caddie with a stray ball before attending Yale University. Bohjalian described it as a "before and after" story about how a single moment can fundamentally alter a life.
During the event, Bohjalian discussed the novel's exploration of gender double standards in the 1970s and revealed autobiographical elements in his writing. He also reflected on how the pandemic changed his previously rigid writing routine, allowing more flexibility for personal life while maintaining his commitment to writing books that are enjoyable for readers to experience.
