Boston Homenetmen Scouts Bridge Generational Gap Through Tech

The Homenetmen Scouts of Boston have launched an intergenerational initiative pairing young scouts with seniors at the Armenian Nursing Home and St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. Over several months, scouts conducted technology workshops teaching seniors practical smartphone skills including texting, video calling, photo sharing and app navigation.

About 15 seniors and four scouts participated in the nursing home sessions. Beyond technical instruction, the exchanges fostered meaningful relationships, with seniors sharing stories about Armenian history and family traditions while scouts gained perspective and cultural knowledge.

Scout Arda Mahserejian noted the reward of seeing seniors gain confidence with their devices. The project, led by K. Tina Barsoumian as part of her Araradian Rank requirements, reflects Homenetmen's mission to develop community-focused youth leaders. Participants hope the visits will continue as an ongoing bridge between generations.
