An Azerbaijani military serviceman has been detained in Armenia after shooting an Armenian citizen in the leg in Shaki village, Syunik Province, according to Armenia's National Security Service.

Azerbaijan's State Security Service notified Armenian authorities on September 29 that a serviceman had left his military unit under unknown circumstances, with suspicions he may have illegally crossed the border. Following coordinated search operations by both countries, Armenian police responded to a shooting report on October 1 at 2:15 p.m. in the village.

Armenian authorities apprehended the serviceman at the scene. The victim was treated for a leg wound. Armenia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into the incident. Details were communicated to the Azerbaijani side.
