Armenian Tennis Federation Bolsters National Team With Top Players
Armenian Tennis Federation hopeful about sport’s future
The Armenian Tennis Federation is entering a new phase with the addition of two elite female players to its national roster. Elina Avanesyan, ranked No. 159 by the WTA, has represented Armenia since August 2024 and helped the nation secure promotion to Group II at the Billie Jean King Cup—its first advancement in 16 years. Alina Charaeva, a Russian-born player ranked No. 108 who recently obtained Armenian citizenship, will begin competing for Armenia in 2028.
The federation partnered with the Keron Development Foundation to facilitate the players' integration. During a September visit to Armenia, both athletes conducted a free master class in Tsaghkadzor attended by over 200 young players and tennis enthusiasts. The players emphasized their commitment to representing Armenia and inspiring the next generation, with both setting their sights on competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
