Armenian MP's Home Searched in Money Laundering Investigation
Armenian MP Narek Karapetyanโs home searched in money laundering, rally coercion probe
Law enforcement in Armenia searched the residence of National Assembly member Narek Karapetyan of the Strong Armenia party on Friday as part of a criminal investigation into money laundering and rally coercion allegations.
Armenia's Investigative Committee said the search was conducted in connection with criminal proceedings against Aleksan Aleksanyan, who faces charges of materially inducing individuals to participate in public gatherings and laundering large sums of money.
Karapetyan himself has been charged under two articles of the Armenian Criminal Code: coercing participation in a public gathering through violence or threats, and laundering particularly large amounts of money. The Central Electoral Commission previously approved the Prosecutor General's request to authorize criminal prosecution against the opposition lawmaker, clearing the way for the charges to proceed.
