Armenian Heritage Park Inspires Temporary Labyrinth Art Project

An Armenian Weekly contributor created a temporary chalk labyrinth artwork inspired by the labyrinth at Boston's Armenian Heritage Park for a Disney-themed house party. The 18-foot square design, painted with food coloring and cornstarch on his driveway, drew from the park's circular stone labyrinth that features a cross pattern visible from above.
The artist explained that labyrinths, unlike mazes, offer a single continuous path leading to a central destination and have existed for centuries, often found in medieval European churches as spaces for contemplation. After the artwork was completed, party guests formed a conga line following the labyrinth's path to its center, marked with a blue Mickey Mouse logo.
Designed as intentionally temporary artโan "ephemeral" workโthe chalk creation required frequent touch-ups due to rain but ultimately brought joy and community to the gathering.
