Armenian Artist Edgar Soghomonyan Builds Creative Community Through Comics
From watching cartoons to creating comics: Edgar Soghomonyanโs artistic journey
Edgar Soghomonyan, an Armenian artist and educator, has built a creative career spanning from childhood drawing to founding PanProjeKt Arts Center in 2019. The center emphasizes developing individual artistic voices rather than standardized instruction, offering classes in drawing, graphics, and printmaking techniques.
Soghomonyan began creating comics in 2023, inspired by everyday moments at his studio. His short, six-panel comics featuring student character Maral gained attention on Instagram before he paused the project due to increased demands at the arts center. Despite the hiatus, Soghomonyan views comics as an accessible storytelling medium requiring fewer resources than animation.
He is organizing a comic workshop in August to demonstrate that anyone can create stories through the medium. Soghomonyan believes art education should cultivate independent thinking and individuality rather than conformity.
