Armenian Appeals Court Orders House Arrest for Archbishop Galstanyan
Appeals Court replaces Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan’s detention with house arrest
Armenia's Criminal Court of Appeals has modified the detention status of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, replacing his pre-trial detention with a two-month house arrest order. The decision, issued by a panel chaired by Judge Vazgen Rshtuni, partially upheld an appeal filed by defense attorney Hovhannes Khudoyan.
Galstanyan was arrested in connection with a criminal case alleging attempts to seize power and preparation of terrorist acts, charges he has denied. His legal team has consistently argued the prosecution is politically motivated and called for his release.
Under the new ruling, Galstanyan remains subject to judicial restrictions but will no longer be held in pre-trial detention while criminal proceedings continue.
