Armenia to Host UN Biodiversity Conference Later This Year
Armenia highlights fight against environmental crime ahead of COP17
Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan highlighted his country's commitment to combating environmental crime during a roundtable discussion at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference on June 29. Abisoghomonyan noted that Armenia will host the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) later in 2024. He emphasized the conference's importance in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and stressed that fighting environmental crime is essential to achieving global biodiversity goals. The deputy minister outlined planned initiatives designed to strengthen cooperation between environmental and criminal justice institutions. Armenia's COP17 theme, "Acting for Nature," represents a call for political will and collective responsibility to transform environmental commitments into concrete results, Abisoghomonyan said.
