Armenia sets 2029 target for visa-free travel with EU
Armenia has set 2029 as the target deadline to complete its EU Visa Liberalisation Action Plan, Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan announced during a September 28 meeting with European Union officials in Yerevan.
Sargsyan, Armenia's chief negotiator in the visa liberalization process, emphasized that implementing the action plan is a government priority and will strengthen democratic institutions. The plan includes several key initiatives: a new biometric identification system launching November 1 through a public-private partnership, and an integrated border management strategy expected to be submitted for government approval by year-end.
EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos praised Sargsyan's leadership and reforms within Armenia's Interior Ministry and Police. Officials cited migration management and border security as core priorities in the bilateral cooperation effort.
