Armenia’s elections met democratic standards but raised concerns over campaign environment, observers say
International observers concluded that Armenia's June 7, 2026 parliamentary elections offered voters genuine political choices and were well-administered, though significant concerns emerged about the campaign environment.
OSCE and Council of Europe monitors noted that election day proceedings were generally peaceful and professionally managed. However, the campaign was marked by direct foreign pressure, allegations of vote-buying, selective prosecution of opposition figures, and restrictions on public sector employees' political freedom.
Observers highlighted a polarized media landscape, inflammatory rhetoric, and limited online campaign regulation as challenges to democratic integrity. They also cited pressure from Russian authorities at unprecedented levels. While election administration demonstrated competence and stakeholder trust, observers recommended strengthened democratic institutions, improved voter information, and continued efforts to address previous recommendations on election law.
