Armenia Presents June Elections as Democratic Success to OSCE
Armenia highlights democratic credentials of June 7 parliamentary elections at OSCE
Armenia's delegation presented results of its June 7 parliamentary elections to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, characterizing the vote as a significant demonstration of democratic participation. The elections drew extensive international observation, with accreditation from 13 local observer missions and more than 600 observers from eight international bodies, including the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.
Of 2,505,228 eligible voters, 1,477,736 cast ballots for a turnout of 58.94 percent. Three political parties crossed the electoral threshold: the Civil Contract Party secured a parliamentary majority, followed by the Strong Armenia Alliance and the Armenia Alliance. The OSCE/ODIHR preliminary findings described the process as professionally managed in a pluralistic political environment. Armenia also highlighted what it characterized as unprecedented foreign interference and disinformation campaigns during and after the electoral period. Official results are expected June 14.
