Caucasian Leopard Spotted in Armenia's Khosrov Forest Reserve

Camera traps in Armenia's Khosrov Forest State Reserve have captured new footage of a Caucasian leopard, Environment Minister Hambartsum Matevosyan announced. The sighting demonstrates the success of Armenia's conservation efforts and the country's rich biodiversity.

The Caucasian leopard, also known as the Persian leopard, is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Armenia hosts one of the species' key habitats in the South Caucasus, with Khosrov Forest serving as a critical stronghold for the elusive predator.

Conservationists use non-invasive monitoring methods including camera traps to study the big cat's movements, population trends, and habitat use. Sightings remain rare due to the animal's low population numbers and secretive nature.
